A Charles Dickens' Deventer:

Back in December 2010, I went to Deventer, in Overijssel, for the city's annual Dickens FestijnIt's basically one large recreation of Dickens' Victorian-era England, right inside Deventer's oh-so-charmingly-beautiful city center. The city was part of the Hanseatic League, meaning the city was wealthy during its hey-day, occurring throughout the thirteenth through seventeenth centuries. These days that wealth translates to beautifully restored homes, complete with the most spectacular gables. Deventer is a pleasant surprise.
