Flamingos at Artis:

The flamingos in the city's zoo never cease to delight me as I cycle by, down the Plantage Middenlaan. Their bright colors, readily reflected by their seemingly-endless wall of mirrors, makes even the grayest of days, just a bit brighter.

Warmoesstraat:

Dating from the thirteenth century, it is one of the oldest streets in the city. Often full of tourists, the street represents many of the aspects visitors to the city would expect: prostitutes, sex-shops, an abundance of marijuana, over-prized-greasy foods, and many many bikes.

Cruising down the Dalmatian Coast:

I have just returned to the Netherlands after a beautiful beach-filled-week of holiday in Croatia. When I originally typed this, I was basking in the sun on the top deck of a very large boat, cruising down the Dalmatian Coast. It was stunning. If the dog of the same name comes from this region of the world, I am not sure. I will have to check. Apparently it does. Croatia proved to be a pleasantly surprising country, and is just beautiful–tiny islands dotted the turquoise waters that stretched before me. And as an added bonus, every local that I met proved very helpful and willing to speak English–eager to speak English even. Perhaps the less developed countries of Europe may also be the best to visit–though Paris, with all its wonders and magical lights, has locals that can be (and almost always are) less helpful, unless you address them in French. That's one more point for Croatia.

Caught up in the essence of life:

Perhaps I am just young. But the older I become, the more excited I seem to be about life at large. The world, even with its social and political conflicts, is just... so exciting. I mean, think about it: we are alive! We're living and breathing creatures on Earth! And we won't be around for too long, when taking the big picture into account. I'm progressively becoming even more interested in the culture of the moment. Fashion, architecture, design and social progress seem to permeate my thoughts. Rather than retreating to the self, I'm instead caught up in the essence of life. I'm losing myself in the moment. And I love that.
